Mom's flights — Toronto, all options
Mom flies from Toronto, and she has two shapes to choose from: straight to Quito, or to Cali first for family days, which then needs its own Cali → Quito flight. Every option below is priced and checked; nothing is booked. The island legs from Quito are a separate problem, on the Quito ⇄ Galápagos tab. Her own page in Spanish: vuelos-quito-galapagos.pages.dev
✈️ Option A — Direct to Quito (Copa round trip)
- Prices in USD for the round trip, both ways. $774 = CA$1,085 at the Oct 27 re-check; the same pair was $789.24 / CA$1,107 on Oct 26.
- Traps to avoid: headline fares ~$16 cheaper than these are overnight Panama layovers (up to 14h47 in PTY) or 03:08 AM departures. Flagged in the checks, not real savings.
- January returns are a price cliff — the cheapest Jan 2 return home priced at $1,444. The value sits in the Dec 21–28 returns.
- Arriving before Dec 17 adds ~$120 per extra Quito hotel night while she waits for the group.
🌴 Option B — Via Cali first (family days, then Cali → Quito)
- Fully bag-included version of the Cali routing: $1,435 (Oct 26 numbers).
- She stays with family in Cali, so this routing adds no hotel cost — the +$527 over direct is purely flights, and it buys days with her brother and family before the cruise.
- The Cali → Quito leg is the piece she had priced at ~$800 on her own; the checked price is $212.
- Her brother's own ticket on the same Cali ⇄ Quito leg: Avianca round trip $385 (confirmed on avianca.com; $387 on Oct 26).

- Best Cali trip: $1,206.37 (out Dec 14, Quito Dec 16, home Dec 24) — +$432 vs the best direct.
- Comfort variant: the AC961 nonstop home on Dec 27 makes it $1,296.12 — that is the Dec 27 cell recomputed with the $432.19 nonstop instead of the $370.14 Copa.
- The Avianca Cali ↔ Quito round trip verified at $385 (Google Flights, Oct 27) can replace the $212.45 one-way plus a separate Quito → Cali positioning, if the uncle flies it too.
- Toronto → Cali on Dec 17 is a dead end ($1,413.31, arrives too late to continue to Quito).
- Dec 15 Toronto → Cali on American (2 stops, $681.09) would cut $107.47 off the Dec-15-out rows, but it arrives 21:46 after 2 stops — not used above.
